This describes what Canine Origin does with the small amount of information it holds.

Who we are

Canine Origin is an independent UK publisher of dog information, training guidance, breed guides and practical ownership resources.

What the site collects directly

Nothing. There is no account system, no login, no comment facility, no newsletter sign-up and no contact form.

What is stored in your own browser

The site saves a small number of preferences in your browser's local storage. These stay on your device, are readable only by this site, and are never sent anywhere:

  • the region and language you chose, and whether you dismissed the suggestion to change it;
  • the currency you chose in the cost calculators;
  • names you saved as favourites in the dog name generator;
  • your analytics choice, if you were asked for one.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of them.

Analytics

Canine Origin uses Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand which guides and tools are read, so they can be improved. Neither loads unless you choose to allow analytics using the cookie banner or Cookie settings in the footer. Refusing is remembered.

Analytics is never used for advertising, and no advertising measurement runs on this site.

Search

Site search runs in your browser against a search index served with the site. Your search terms are not sent to a server and are not recorded.

The tools

The calculators, the breed finder, the comparison tool and the name generator all run in your browser. Figures you enter stay on your device and are not transmitted. Nothing you enter is used to produce a report, an email or a recommendation held anywhere else.

Third parties

This site is hosted and served through Cloudflare, which processes every request to it for hosting, security and performance reasons (for example, filtering malicious traffic) before it reaches you. This happens for every visit, in the same way any web host handles the requests made to it.

Web fonts are requested from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google to fetch them. Affiliate links, where present, are marked and take you to a retailer whose own privacy notice then applies.

Your rights

Depending on where you are, data protection law may give you rights over personal data relating to you, including rights to access, correct or delete it, and to object to or restrict some processing. These rights apply to the data described on this page, such as analytics and ordinary security logs.

Changes

Any substantial change to this policy carries its own update date.
